a little too much about me…
Hello and welcome! I’m Rachel Biestman, and I’m the lead girl behind Maq & Mane.
I started my career in 2005 for the sake of art, when I imagined I’d be doing cool-girl pixies, fashion mullets, and vivid colors when the market for them didn’t even exist! Never did I imagine I would end up in long hairstyling, getting nerdy over natural highlights and meticulous foil placement. And to have the opportunity to serve so many brides on their most important day is an overwhelming honor!
In complete opposition to what I had intended, what makes me unique as a hairstylist is that I am conservative. And when I say “conservative,” what I mean is that I have three intentions with your hair. The first is to honor whatever you have asked me to do, while offering clear and honest advice. My second intention is to always respect the integrity of your hair. My long-haired clients love me because their hair stays long, shiny, and healthy- even after a blonding service! My third intention is to stay within your budget. The salon is abut the only place when you can feel completely disconnected from what you are about to spend after 3 hours of services. A thorough consultation will allow you to feel in control of your experience from the first foil to the final photo.
A little more about me- I am a wife of 13 years, getting married 2 weeks after graduating from beauty school! I have three kids, Langston (10), Lilah (4), and Collette (as of right now- a week old!). We have been living in Augusta for nearly 12 years, which is such a shock to my gypsy soul! I have lived under 22 roofs in 21 years, and have spent a bit of time overseas. Because of this, I adore having people from other countries in my life, having a deep desire to develop an international clientele. On my days off, you might find me still working with my husband, Patrick- a crazy amazing photographer. You might also find me serving at church, thrifting for funky clothes, sewing, quilting, or having breakfast with friends with one or more children on my hips. Add the fact that I really enjoy my work, and I’d say my life is pretty stinking sweet!
Goodness, pretty hair happens just about everywhere, and there is so much talent here in Augusta, GA! What would make you come to me before someone else? Well of course, I aim to not just make your hair look great, but to make sure you are completely happy with it! I also have partnered with Davines ensuring that premium, earth and hair-loving products are used on your hair. I have dedicated myself to continuing my education as often as I have an opportunity. Last year I spent 5 weekends away to learn more about the products I use, as well as taking classes on formal hairstyling. And if you are looking for a good listener and a darn-good conversationalist, I’m you’re girl!
